Super Moons
Tuesday, August 12, 2014
As expected, our own Moon Man, Jerry Picard, was out in the dark getting shots of the Super Moon on Sunday, just after dark. He also captured a drone but that's another story.
According to Wikipedia, "A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth."
No one says anything about the colors. The photo we posted on Sunday night showed a deep orange moon. Jerry sent three shots with the moon appearing to be a different color in each shot.
