Shorewood held tie for first going into Friday home soccer match with Mountlake Terrace after defeating Oak Harbor, tying Glacier Peak and defeating Stanwood
The Shorewood soccer team held a tie for first place in the Western Conference 3A South going into a match with Mountlake Terrace Friday.
Shorewood and Glacier Peak were tied for the division lead with both teams having 7-1-2 Wesco 3A records.
The Thunderbirds went into the game with Mountlake Terrace after defeating Oak Harbor, tying Glacier Peak and defeating Stanwood.
Shorewood won at Oak Harbor on April 21. Shorewood was able to play some good possession against the wind, but struggled to finish. Eventually Dylan Collins scored at the 22nd minute on an assist from Taj McChesney. Oak Harbor had seven shots, but the first half ended 1-0.
In the second half Callahan Gobel scored the second Shorewood goal in the 49th minute on an assist from Collins. Finally Anthony Pepe scored a bent shot that started from a corner kick before Logan Keebler played a pass to him. The game ended with a 3-0 Shorewood victory.
Kyle Crawford and Isaac Whitaker played goalie for Shorewood.
Glacier Peak played host to Shorewood April 23 in a showdown of the top two Wesco 3A South teams. Peak came out strong controlling the midfield and scoring five minutes in. Seven minutes later, Peak scored again on a pass from a free kick just outside the penalty box.
Gradually, Shorewood started to even the game and scored on a one touch shot by Kabir Kahn, who received a pass from Jack Allen. Just minutes later the T-birds narrowly missed a goal, instead hitting the crossbar. The half ended 2-1.
In the second half Shorewood started pressing harder and eventually got a second goal from Dylan Collins that came on a pass from Amir Roushenas.
The teams battled for two overtimes but neither scored leaving the game tied 2-2. Kyle Crawford played in goal for Shorewood.
Shorewood and Glacier Peak had played a scoreless tie at Shoreline Stadium earlier in the season.
On the best night of the year for a game, Shorewood hosted Stanwood Tuesday, April 29, at Shoreline Stadium.
Stanwood started the scoring with a goal in the 8th minute. Shorewood slowly started to turn the game in its favor. Control of the midfield and some strong runs forward finally paid off with Dylan Collins scoring six minutes later on an assist from Jack Allen. The half ended 1-1.
Shorewood pressed on a number of occasions but the Stanwood goalie made some nice saves to keep the score tied. Finally, with seven minutes left, Taj McChesney scored on an assist from Collins to give Shorewood the 2-1 victory.
Kyle Crawford and Isaac Whitaker played goalie for Shorewood.
Shorewood is 8-2-3 overall along with its 7-1-2 conference record.
The Shorewood junior varsity took an 8-2 Wesco 3A record (9-4 overall) into its Friday home match with Mountlake Terrace after defeating Oak Harbor 4-0, losing at Glacier Peak 3-0, and defeating Stanwood 3-1.
