Shoreline Schools to fund all-day kindergarten for all students
Wednesday, May 14, 2014
The Shoreline School Board has unanimously approved a proposal to fund all-day kindergarten for all students beginning in the 2014-15 school year.
Research on the benefits of all-day kindergarten is compelling. “We believe that district-funded all-day kindergarten for all students will increase student achievement and be an effective step toward closing the opportunity gap in our schools,” said Shoreline Schools Superintendent Sue Walker.
Shoreline has adequate budget capacity and classroom space to begin the program in the fall of 2014, while waiting for the State to fulfill its commitment to do so by the 2017-18 school year.
Families began kindergarten registration in February and continue to register students for next year’s classes. All students who have registered for 2014-15, will now automatically be enrolled in free full-day kindergarten. Deposits for the tuition-based program will be refunded in the next few weeks.

Out-of-district boundary applications for the program should be made to Cathy Allred in the Shoreline School District Instruction Department.
