Shoreline Police arrest car repair scammers targeting older women
Saturday, May 3, 2014
Yesterday afternoon Detectives with the Shoreline SET unit were in the 18400 block of Midvale when they saw a Chevrolet Suburban matching the description of a Fraud suspect's vehicle.
Detectives saw a white male associated with the vehicle approach an elderly woman at her car. They watched as the suspect and the woman went into the BECU credit union and the woman withdrew money from the cash machine and handed it to the suspect.
Officers closed in on the suspect vehicle with two adult males and two juvenile males on board as well as the suspect on foot and made the arrest. The suspect had just received the cash from the victim as a result of a scam.
At the precinct, during the interview with the main suspect, he admitted to a number of scams all involving elderly victims using "dent and fix" or fake repairs for alleged air bag problem schemes.
The scams took place in north King County and Shoreline as well as Snohomish County. The three adults were booked on charges or warrants. The two children in the suspect vehicle, 10 and 11 years old, were released to their mother. All suspects, as well as the children, are related.
If anyone has had a similar experience and has not reported it to police, they are asked to call the Shoreline Police Department, 206-296-3311.
