Hairspray - the Broadway musical at Shoreline Community College
Tuesday, May 13, 2014
The 1950's are out and change is in the air at Shoreline Community College Theater this Spring! Hairspray – the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical – is coming this weekend, May 16-18 and 23-25.
Produced by Charles Enlow, directed by Corey McDaniel, with choreography by Lee Ann Hittenberger, Hairspray is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance and toe-tapping tunes.
Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray tells the story of the lovable plus-sized teen Tracy Turnblad and her one and only desire - to dance on the Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from outcast to star. She uses her new-found popularity to rise to the top, win over her heartthrob, pile on the hairspray, and makeover a TV network – all without mussing her 'do! You won’t want to miss this rocking and rolling show, with memorable tunes and laughter for the whole family!
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to present this award-winning show on the Shoreline stage,” comments Charles Enlow. “It’s like welcoming home an old friend,” as Hairspray originated at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle prior to its Broadway run in 2002. “Many of our pit musicians in this production are the original players in the 2002 5th Avenue run. The orchestra sounds fabulous!”
