In 1599 the first comedy performed by Shakespeare's company in the Globe Theatre was “As You Like It.” So the Shorewood High School drama department decided to present the play as the first in its beautiful new theater.

Phebe (Eva Wellington) and Silvius (Mark Penrod)
Love in its many forms is the subject of “As You Like It.” When Rosalind and her father are banished from the court by her power-hungry uncle, she and her cousin Celia escape with the court jester to the woods. They meet an assortment of lovesick country folk, and Orlando, the man Rosalind fell in love with before their departure. Since Rosalind is disguised as a boy, she takes the opportunity to teach Orlando to truly love her, faults and all. In true Shakespearean comic style, a host of clever fools play with the lovers until there is nothing to do, but be married …with the help of a Greek god.

Showtimes are Nov. 15 and 16 and 21 to 23 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and available online or by calling 206-393-4372, or $12 at the door.
