The 7-11 at 1232 North 185th Street in Shoreline sold a $250,000 lottery ticket to a Shoreline man |
A man from Shoreline recently won $250,000 playing Washington’s Lottery Mega Millions game.
He realized he won last week when he was checking his tickets at a local grocery store. At first glance, he thought the ticket reader revealed that he had won $250. He said, “I couldn’t see it very well, so I called the store-keeper over, and asked her to help. She said the ticket was worth $250,000!”
After claiming his prize from Washington’s Lottery Everett Regional Office last Friday, September 27, the Ward’s Cove Company retiree went out to dinner to celebrate. He plans to share some of his winnings with the woman who helped him in the store and invest some in stocks. He said, “I just feel lucky that I won and later on I’ll give some money away.”
This was the winner’s first time playing Mega Millions. He said, “I used my own numbers; whichever numbers came into my head.” He has purchased Washington’s Lottery tickets regularly in the past, and only recently got back into playing. The man previously won $500 on a Washington’s Lottery Scratch ticket, but recognizes this as his first big win.
Mega Millions is a multi-state jackpot game. If someone in Washington State wins a Mega Millions prize, others in Washington benefit, too. For example, the retail location that sold the winning ticket, the 7-Eleven at 1232 North 185th Street in Shoreline, will receive a $2,500 selling bonus.
Additionally, proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing scholarships to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, visit WA Lottery.
The winner has chosen to remain anonymous.
