Construction begins July 8-12 at the new Sunset School Park.
Improvements to be constructed this summer include: grading, adding 6” topsoil, seeding and installing irrigation for the open lawn area; adding asphalt paths around the open lawn area. The lawn area will be open for public use later this fall after the grass is well established.
The Play equipment has been repaired and ready for use this summer. Construction of the park along 10th Avenue NW will begin in July and continue throughout the summer. The park will remain open for use this summer including the play equipment, covered shelter, upper grass field and pedestrian access from west-east through the site. A portable restroom will be placed near the play equipment in a temporary location until after construction is complete.
A new community garden is expected to be built this winter and be operational in the spring of 2014. The City will be applying for a grant in June to help fund improvements to the upper field, new basketball court, and tot lot play equipment, and an enclosure for the portable restroom.
The park is the site of a closed and demolished Shoreline Schools elementary school (Sunset). It operates under an interlocal agreement, whereby the school district owns the land and can reclaim it at any time, but the city has the use of the land for a park. There is a similar arrangement at Paramount School Park. Neighbors want positive use of the land because vacant buildings attract vandalism and crime.
Looks beautiful.
