Shorewood High School demolition begins

Demolition began Tuesday, July 23, 2013 for the old Shorewood, as the 100s wing on North 175th came down. This was the old, one-story Ronald Elementary School addition, built in 1951.

View is from the corner of Fremont Ave N and N 175th.

  1. Lots of memories of this place...mostly good! Butler Jr High occupied the property south of Ronald for many years, and it was expanded to Shorewood in the 1970s. Many of my teachers from Shoreline opted for Shorewood when it opened in hopes of greener pastures.

One cool thing about Butler was its running track, which was installed about 1965-66. It became extremely popular for students to spend lunch period walking around the track, just as Greeenlake's path became a few years later.

  2. Ditto with the memories... I am the youngest of four siblings, and the only one that graduated from Shorewood (1980), rather than Shoreline. I always liked the old wing along 175th. Even as a kid, I felt that it kept some of the old history to the new school. It is sad to see it demolished, but I'm glad to see renovations. T-Birds Rule!

  3. I graduated from Shorewood in the 80's with my 3 siblings. My son will graduate from the new Shorewood in 2019. It is amazing and sad to see the new Shorewood being constructed. Many memories are vanishing but at least the T-Birds will continue to be around.

  5. Remember trying to make it all the way from PE or band classes at the other end of the school to the wing they're tearing down this week, with a stop at your locker in between? That was never easy... And did anybody else catch the episode of Deadliest Catch a couple weeks ago when the Hansen Brothers went to visit Mr. Turner in the shop class? He's still there, after all these years... My youngest son (15) said "holy cow, how old IS that guy?!?" Go T-Birds!

  6. Not only do I know Turner, I know the Hansen's. Mr. D's baseball field has been a parking lot for several years. So let this be known.... The Alumni and Staff may not all be famous nationally, but their mark has been seeded to the rest of the nation to embrace. To the classes of the early 80's....Vince, Adam, Jenny, Garth, Brendon, Craig, Roger, ... oh so many that have made great contributions to humanity. Thank you, GO-T-BIRDS!

  7. It is so ironic that some community members had to force the school district to preserve the Ronald School against their wishes and now the school district shows it off.

  8. So many fond memories a building can represent for a sappy soul.
