On Thursday, June 20, 2013, Ronald Wastewater District General Manager Michael Derrick wrote an op-ed piece for the Shoreline Area News. Included was a link to a letter from Michael Derrick to City Manager Julie Underwood regarding an upcoming meeting between the City Council and the Board of Commissioners of Ronald Wastewater. ReplyDeleteWhat a joke, they just bought the Bruggers Bog maintenance facility from King County for $2.9 million with unknown costs for updating & repairing the fuel & decant equipment. What is wrong with that? Well, they plan on surplusing the 3-year old maintenance facility at Ronald Wastewater in 2018 if and when they acquire Ronald Wastewater mere blocks from City Hall and instead will issue bonds (i.e. debt) to pay for a facility that will need a complete rebuild that is a couple of miles away from nearly every city facility and nearby park and will surplus a nearly brand new facility that is already paid for (Ronald Wastewater has no debt).
Do you call that efficient? I don't. The city wants to spend millions of dollars ($5 million will turn into $10-15 after interest) on a facility located far from city hall on another facility instead of using a nearly new facility with no debt. Only in the fairy tale land of city hall do they call that efficient.
