On Saturday, John Paine of The Avid Angler fly fishing shop in Lake Forest Park conducted fly casting lessons at Animal Acres park. Four men and one woman learned proper techniques for river and lake fishing.
The Avid Angler shop is located in the lower level of the Lake Forest Park mall next to the Gym.

John explains how to extend or shorten the amount of line needed to get the fly to the fish and how to hold the rod after the cast.

Perhaps a fisherman could tell us how much plastic that ends up in the ocean gyre known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from fishing tackle (hooks, lines, sinkers, floats, rods, reels, baits, lures, spears, nets, gaffs, traps, waders and tackle boxes). Is fishing next up on the liberty chopping block?
Better not leave out commercial fishing gear (surrounding nets, seine nets, trawls, dredges, hooks and lines lift nets, gillnets, entangling nets, etc.)
Nice work John! Always good to get more people enjoying the outdoors. More people enjoying the outdoors will increase awareness for everyone. Unfortunately the 90/10 rule applies, where ninety percent of the users take care of the resource and ten percent do not. This applies to commercial and recreational users. More eyes on the water will reduce that ten percent.
