Shorewood completes baseball sweep over Shorecrest with Saturday victories in Blue Day/Pink Night series

The Shorewood varsity and junior varsity baseball teams both completed three-game sweeps over Shorecrest with Saturday victories as part of the all-day Blue Day/Pink Night series of baseball and softball games.

The Shorewood varsity defeated Shorecrest 11-0 Saturday at Shorewood’s home Meridian Park Fields in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule after the Thunderbirds had beaten the Scots 4-0 Tuesday at Meridian Park and 8-0 Wednesday at Shorecrest.

Shorewood improved to 5-0 in Western Conference 3A play (8-0 overall). Shorecrest is 1-4 in the Wesco 3A (2-6 overall).

Shorewood winning pitcher Riley O'Brien raised his record to 2-0 in throwing his second consecutive five-inning no-hitter after holding Everett hitless in a 17-0 win Monday, March 25. O'Brien struck out four Shorecrest batters Saturday and walked four. Steffen Torgersen had a triple and two RBI. Teammate Avery Foltz also had two RBI.

The Thunderbird JVs topped Shorecrest 20-2 Saturday at Meridian Park after they had defeated the Shorecrest Junior varsity 17-6 Tuesday at Shorecrest and 12-2 Wednesday at Meridian Park. The Shorewood JVs have a 5-0 Wesco 3A record (7-0 overall). The Shorecrest JVs are 0-5 and 1-7.

The Shorecrest varsity next plays Tuesday at 4 p.m. at home against Meadowdale, with junior varsity teams from the two schools playing at the same time at Meadowdale. The Shorewood varsity plays Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Glacier Peak, with junior varsity teams from the two schools playing at the same time at Meridian Park. Each of the Tuesday games opens a three-game series that continues Wednesday and Friday.
