Shoreline Public Schools Foundation awards scholarships to local students

Ken Altena with the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation was honored to award $1,000 in scholarships to Dylan Stephens of Shorewood High School and Claire Kaiser of Shorecrest High School at the annual Spring Event for the Foundation on March 28, 2013.
Each candidate was selected based upon their volunteer contributions in their communities. Both will graduate in 2013.
The Shorewood Recipient, Dylan Stephens, holds a 3.98 GPA, volunteered at Swedish Hospital, Central Washington Hospital, is the ASB President of his school, and is involved in tutoring through the National Honor Society, is a Young Life and Wyldlift leader, a camp counselor, and has worked with several food drives in our local community. He will attend Ursinus College in the Fall.
The Shorecrest Recipient, Claire Kaiser, holds a 3.97 GPA, volunteered at Central Lutheran Church, coached a Shorelake youth soccer team, and serves on the Lake Forest Park Youth Council. She plans to study engineering in the fall.

Wow, a photograph without Sue Walker's mug. She managed to put her face into the Dollars for Scholars photo even though the school district has nothing to do with that program.
Dollars for Scholars should be about the kids and the small business community in Shoreline that support them, not some self-promoting school district administrator
