Shorewood’s first league soccer game brings first loss

Corrected 03-24-2013 1:43am
The weather for the Shorewood boys’ soccer game at Glacier Peak Tuesday night was cold, rainy and miserable.

Unfortunately for Shorewood that was how the game went as well.

The game opened Western Conference 3A play for both teams and dropped Shorewood’s overall record to 1-1 after Glacier Peak won 2-0.

Glacier Peak controlled the ball for much of the first half and outshot Shorewood 5-2. The Grizzlies netted their first goal at the 32nd minute.

The half ended 1-0 for Peak.

The second half had Shorewood settling down and starting to even out the game, but the Thunderbirds were unable to finish. At the 60th minute Glacier Peak scored its second goal, one that started with a free kick that Shorewood blocked with Glacier Peak scoring on the rebound for the 2-0 lead that ended the game

Calvin Crawford was in goal for Shorewood.

Glacier Peak is 1-0 in league play and 1-2 overall. Shorewood is 0-1 in league and 1-1 overall.

Shorewood was scheduled to have played three games by now, but a non-league home game against Kennedy Catholic that was rescheduled from Saturday to Wednesday, has been postponed again without being rescheduled.

The Thunderbirds play a home non-league game against Bothell Friday before returning to Wesco 3A play with another home game against Mountlake Terrace Tuesday, March 26.

The T-birds and Bothell meet at 7:30pm Friday at Shoreline Stadium, with junior varsity teams from the two schools playing at 5:30pm.

The Shorewood junior varsity has a 1-1 record (1-0 Wesco 3A) after a 1-0 victory over Glacier Peak Tuesday.
