Shorewood grad Hopen leads Cal Poly men Into Pac-12 swimming finals in Federal Way

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – For the third time since joining the conference before the start of the 2010-11 season, the Cal Poly men's swimming and diving team will compete at the Pac-12 Championships. Diving events will be held Thursday through Saturday, with swimming to follow Sunday through Wednesday at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Cal Poly sophomore Mackey Hopen is seeded No. 8, with a time of 54.61 seconds, a school record he set at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach in November. Teammate Jimmy Deiparine is seeded 20th in the same event, at 56.2.

Both Hopen and Deiparine will be swimming in their home state, as they prepped at nearby (Shoreline) Shorewood and Mercer Island high schools, respectively.

Hopen swims for Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, California.
