It's playoff time for the local high schools, as post-season play begins this week in District 1.
The Shorewood girls finished second in 3A WESCO South (9-4 in league, 14-6 overall), and their reward is a home game Tuesday night at 7 PM against Everett (6-7, 10-10), the #3 seed from WESCO North. The Seagulls could prove a dangerous opponent as several of their players who violated the school's Athletic Code over the holidays, and who missed most of January, have now been allowed to return to the team.
The game will be televised on Channel 26, through the efforts of the District's Live Video Production Club.
The Shorecrest girls (8-5, 11-9) have the tough task of traveling to Ferndale (12-0, 18-1) on Tuesday. The Scots come into the playoffs the #3 seed from the South, while the Golden Eagles soar into the post-season as the #2 seed from the North.
Three teams from District 1 will advance to the Regional round.
For those who can read a bracket, here's how the girls' slate shapes up.
On the boys side of things, the T-Birds finished third in WESCO South (9-4, 14-6), and they'll travel to Oak Harbor for their first round game to face the second-seeded Wildcats (7-6, 11-9) on Wednesday.
The fourth-seeded Scots limped to the finish line, ending their schedule with a mark of 4-9, 10-10. They travel on Wednesday to play the top-seeded Stanwood Spartans (12-1, 15-5).
