Shorecrest gets final District boys’ basketball tournament berth without playoff after Scots defeat Meadowdale Thursday

The Shorecrest boys’ basketball team avoided a possible three-way playoff for the final berth in the Northwest District 3A boys’ basketball tournament by defeating Meadowdale 63-47 Thursday at Meadowdale High School.

If the Scots had lost to Meadowdale, the two teams would have been in a three-way tie with Everett because all three teams would have had 3-10 Western Conference 3A records and would have been tied for the last spot in the eight-team tournament. With none of the Wesco tiebreaker criteria settling the issue, two tiebreaker games would have been needed.

Shorecrest’s victory however, gave the Scots a 4-9 Wesco 3A record (10-10 overall) and dropped Meadowdale to 2-11 (4-16).

So, instead of preparing for a Friday playoff game, the Scots will prepare to open district tournament play against Wesco 3A North champion Stanwood (12-1, 15-5) Wednesday at 7pm on Stanwood’s home court.

Shorecrest had missed a chance to clinch a tournament berth Tuesday with 51-35 home loss to Wesco 3A South champion Mountlake Terrace.
