Lake Forest Park is advising residents of the negative consequences of feeding wild animals.
Visit the City's urban wildlife website. Many people feed wildlife because they believe it helps them survive. Unfortunately, that could not be farther from the truth. Wild animals that are being fed by humans will quickly become dependent on this unnatural food source and will lose their natural fear of humans. This inevitably leads to negative human/wildlife interactions (such as close encounters with coyotes). In addition, feeding wildlife creates an unsustainable wildlife population with characteristics such as poor health and increased rate of premature death. People that truly care for wildlife do not feed them.
