OLYMPIA - State Rep. Ruth Kagi (D – Shoreline) is seeking students from 14 to 16 years of age who are interested in serving as pages in the state House of Representatives during the 2013 session.

“Paging is a weeklong, hands-on civics lesson,” Kagi said. “Each year, I’m delighted to meet the bright young men and women who come to Olympia to participate in the legislative process.”

Pages perform ceremonial tasks and miscellaneous errands for legislators and legislative staff.  In addition to their paging duties, pages also spend two hours per day in a classroom setting learning about the history of the legislature and how a bill becomes law.

Legislators sponsor a limited number of pages during the session, which this year runs through April 28.  Kagi seeks to sponsor students who live and attend school within the 32nd Legislative District, which includes northwest Seattle, Shoreline, Lynnwood and parts of Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace.

Interested students need permission from a parent or guardian, as well as their school, to participate in the page program.  More information and an application can be found on the House Page Program web page,
