The new year is upon us, and this weekend is a great time to make good on your New Year’s resolution, and take in more of what Shoreline and Lake Forest Park have to offer. 

Friday, January 4 

Author Stuart Neville 

The Northern Ireland native Neville, author of the critically acclaimed The Twelve, comes to Third Place Books to discuss his new historical thriller, Ratlines, about an Irish Intelligence Service lieutenant torn between conscience and country as he’s ordered to protect a German national, and former Nazi commando in 1963 Ireland.

Stanwood Spartans @ Shorecrest Scots - Boys’ Basketball 

The 7-4 Scots will try to build momentum after winning three of their last four, as they take on the Spartans.

Everett Seagulls @ Shorewood Thunderbirds - Boys’ Basketball 

Washington State bound Josh Hawkinson and the Thunderbirds will look to build on their current five game winning streak as they face Wesco opponent Everett. Shorewood won both matchups against the Seagulls last season.

Jack Cook & The Phantoms of Soul 

Performing forgotten blues tunes from the 1920s to the 60s, Cook has been performing traditional blues in the Seattle area for over 30 years, and was inducted into the Washington Blues Society Hall of Fame in 2006.

Live Music at Darrell’s Tavern

Those looking to celebrate the first weekend of the new year with some punk rock and metal need look no further than Darrell’s, as Dying Off, The Know Nothingz, Anticulture, and Gutter Gourmet are all scheduled to perform.

Saturday, January 5 

Brian Waite Band 

It’s a Pajammin’ Party at the Shoreline Library, as the Brian Waite Band takes both children and parents on a “Rock n’ Roll adventure,” as they mix costumes and props with their award-winning rock n’ roll music. 

11:00 A.M. – Shoreline Library (345 Northeast 175th Street) – Free 

Eduardo Mendonça Brazilian Jazz Combo 

Brazilian recording artist Mendonça has performed for the likes of Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela, and the 14th Dalai Lama, and was also featured in Paul Simon’s 1991 documentary, “Born at the Right Time.” 

12:30 P.M. – Third Place Commons Stage - Free 

Grupo Amoroso

The Brazilian music continues to flow from the Third Place stage, as Grupo Amoroso brings classic bossa nova, along with Brazilian pop and jazz.

The Daily Flash

Fusing folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and jazz, the latest incarnation of the original mid-60s group features founding member Steve Lalor, along with Barry Curtis and Steve Peterson of The Kingsmen. Reservations can be made by calling 206-542-0627
