Ronald Wastewater announces rate increase

Sunday, December 2, 2012

For the past five years, Ronald Wastewater District has been proud to keep the District charge for our area’s sanitary sewer collection services at a constant level, despite steadily rising maintenance and operation expenses.

On November 20, the Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on the proposed 2013 Budget.

We received one written comment from the public, and conducted an outside review by a financial analyst, who confirmed the District’s strong financial condition. The Board reconvened in a special meeting on November 27, and after much deliberation, voted to adopt the 2013 Budget with a nominal $0.06 increase per month for the District charge, effective January 1, 2013.

The increased rate (from $11.15/month to $11.21/month) will generate $18,678.00 more in revenue for 2013 which will be used to offset increasing water, electric, gas, and fuel costs.

Can you imagine if we ran our households like they run these utilities and the government??? Gee, then we would not have a left over dime to pay in taxes. Maybe we should follow their lead and spend money like we had it...or that it was someone else that would be left with the bill. a $2000 chair...are you kidding me!

I imagine that a vast number of households would be much more financially stable if they were run like Ronald Wastewater District.

We are talking about a 6 cent per month rate increase and I think it's the first rate increase in 5 years...

Also, Ronald Wastewater District is not being monitored by the State Auditor for deteriorating financial conditions like some other utilities are.

$2,000 chairs aside, from where I sit they are doing their job pretty well. Of course, you could move to Seattle and enjoy a rate increase every single year if you prefer.

Wow, an entire 72 cents added to an annual bill and the first poster is complaining because they heard the words "rate increase." What about your City Light bill, that is going way up next year, and not a complaint from you. Hey, I have an idea, Shoreline can take that over too.
