It was an exciting day at Dolphin Field right from the start. The Shoreline Community College Women's Soccer Team took on Skagit Valley College for their final match of the season. SCC needed a win in order to secure a playoff spot.
The Dolphins came out ready with Rebekah Tenbroek-Hansen converting a header from a corner by Angela Celedon in the 2nd minute of play. Although there was no score again until the 37th minute the intensity of play continued. The next score came from Ashlann Wood, her first of the season, on a free kick from mid-field!
SCC was not done for the half even with a 2-0 lead. They kept the pressure on Skagit Valley goalie Jordan Bougher in the box. On a very controversial hand ball call against SVC in the box Sara Gilmore of SCC was given a penalty kick. Gilmore converted to put SCC up 3-0 going into the half.
In the second half both teams came out very aggressive but were not able to convert. In the75th minute SVC was finally able to convert. Sarah Tuemmler scored on a cross from Cody White. In the 77th minute SCC goalie Lauren Schoonover received a yellow card in the box giving Skagit Valley a chance to score and make it a 3-2 game. SVC was not able to convert hitting the sidebar of the goal. With this relief the Dolphins were able to extend their lead to 4-1 when Elle Blume converted on a corner kick from Sara Gilmore.
Penalties were a major issue for SVC in this game and SCC was able to covert for a comfortable 4-1 win. This win puts SCC in 3rd place in the Northern Region and qualifies them for NWAACC Playoffs. SCC will take on Highline Community College on Wednesday, November 7th. Times and location are yet to be determined. Be sure to check online at shoreline.edu/athletics for updates.
