Shorecrest to meet Stanwood for State soccer berth after 1-0 home District tournament victory over Ferndale Thursday

Shorecrest will meet Stanwood at Shoreline Stadium Saturday at 5pm for the Northwest District’s No. 3 berth in the state 3A girls’ soccer tournament.
Shorecrest defeated Ferndale 1-0 at Shoreline Stadium Thursday in a game that earlier had been scheduled for Mount Vernon High School. Sophia Flohr scored Shorecrest’s goal in the 71st minute, with an assist from Maria Zahajko. Goalkeeper Frida Swensen recorded her ninth shutout. Flohr now has six goals and four assists.
Shorecrest defeated Ferndale in the elimination game after a 1-0 loss to Western Conference 3A North champion Everett Tuesday at Shoreline Stadium.
Stanwood advanced to meet Shorecrest with a Thursday 1-0 victory over Marysville-Pilchuck.
Marysville-Pilchuck defeated Shorewood in an elimination game Tuesday.
The third-place game between Shorecrest and Stanwood is scheduled for Shoreline Stadium at 5pm Saturday just before the 7pm championship game between Everett and Meadowdale.
Shorewood's 2-0 loss at Marysville-Pilchuck ends the Thunderbrds' season with a 6-8-4 record after the T-birds went 5-6-2 in Western Conference 3A play. For the season, Ellise Rosenfeld scored four goals, Zoe Vincini had three goals and three assists, and goalkeeper Ashley Garay recorded three shutouts.
Shorecrest takes a 12-4-3 record into the Saturday game with Stanwood, after the Scots finished second to Meadowdale in the Wesco 3A South with an 8-2-3 record.
