Wednesday at Shoreline Field the Shoreline Community College women's soccer team battled hard. It was back and forth on the field but Whatcom Community College had a push in the last five minutes of play and pulled off a 2-1 finish over Shoreline Community College.
At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 and both teams were fighting strong. When the second half started you could tell they were determined to score and help to secure their team in the playoffs.
Halfway through the second half Shoreline's Rebekah Hansen went down in the box by a foul on Whatcom's goalie Emily Zimmerman. This gave Sophomore Sara Gilmore a chance to start off scoring on a penalty kick. Gilmore was able to convert with ease.
It looked as SCC women's soccer was going to end with a 1-0 victory but Whatcom was given a surge of energy after a controversial goal that bounced off of the cross-bar and across the goal line. Just two minutes later Whatcom scored again and secured the victory.
SCC is now 5-3-3 in conference and looks to stay in 4th place in the region. WCC is now 7-1-4 and looks to hold on to the conference 2nd place. The SCC Women's Soccer team will face Green River on Monday, October 29th at Dolphin Field at 1pm per a make-up game.
