To the Editor:
Pro-Shoreline Board endorses Shoreline Proposition 1 for the following reasons:
- Shoreline ratepayers west of I-5 will gain local control just as residents east of I-5 have with the Shoreline Water District
- Ratepayers will have 100% our money reinvested back into Shoreline's facilities, not Seattle's. This would also mean our ratepayers would no longer pay a 14% surcharge fee AND a 15% utility tax to the City of Seattle, which goes directly into Seattle's general fund to help pay for Seattle parks, police and fire.
- Citizens will have taxation with local representation. You will gain a voice on rate, services, upgrades and investment decisions through your elected officials, not Seattle's
- There will be no increase in property taxes or projected water charges, in fact financial analysis indicates that over time the City's water rates might be less than those projected by SPU, if we remain with them
- Reinvestment of our money for facility improvements will improve water flow for firefighting and safety purposes
We encourage Shoreline voters to support the Seattle Public Water Utilities acquisition and VOTE YES for Shoreline Proposition 1.

ReplyDeleteFirst - Marcie Riedinger is not a City of Shoreline employee.
Second - Even if she was, there is no law that says that as a municipal employee she cannot be part of a PAC in her free time. Believe it or not, municipal employees are citizens too. They are actually allowed to vote, they have 1st amendment rights AND they too have to pay taxes. Crazy I know. Who knew?
Is anyone surprised to hear that Pro Shoreline PAC is endorsing Prop I? I would have fallen off my chair if I'd read they hadn't.
ReplyDeleteThey have been enthusiastic about every single action taken by the City of Shoreline from day 1. They NEVER look at anything done by the City critically, because their members are always consulted first by City Hall and current mayor.
Pro Shoreline has been at the forefront of supporting the establishment line for our City, no matter what.
I'd say this is all the more reason to look very carefully, Shoreline voters at what Prop 1 will do to your pocketbook and the future of our community.
And the 32nd Democrats have opposed every single action taken by the City of Shoreline. What does that tell you?
ReplyDeleteIt is completely inaccurate to say 32nd Dist Dems have not supported the City of Shoreline's actions. This just shows the complete ignorance and Bias of the previous comment.
ReplyDeleteIt is total malarkey and you know it. We strongly endorse actions that reflect our platform and values. For instance, we enthusiastically endorsed the 2006 Parks and Rec Bond election.
Hmm. One item in 17 years. I stand corrected.
