First round of district soccer tournament Saturday

The Shorecrest girls' soccer team opens the Northwest District 3A tournament with a home match against Marysville-Pilchuck Saturday at 7 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium.

Shorewood opens tournament play Saturday at Everett. The Thunderbirds and Wesco 3A North champion Seagulls meet at Lincoln Field in Everett at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The winners of the two games advance to a District semifinal match Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium. The winners of the two Tuesday semifinal matches advance to the District final Saturday, Nov. 3, at Shoreline Stadium, where they will battle for the District's Nos.1 and 2 berths in State 3A tournament play beginning Nov. 7 and concluding Nov. 16-17.

The Northwest District's No. 1 team gets its first-round State game at home, while the Nos. 2 and 3 teams travel for their first-round matches.

The losers of the Saturday first-round District tournament games meet Oct. 30 in elimination games and must win two more matches to qualify for State as the Northwest District's No, 3 team. The two semifinal losers must win two more games to take third place.

Shorecrest takes a 10-3-3 record (8-2-3 Western Conference 3A) into the home game against Marysville-Pilchuck (7-8-1, 6-6-1 Wesco 3A). Shorewood takes a 6-6-4 record (5-6-2 Wesco 3A) into the match at Everett (12-3-1. 10-2-1 Wesco 3A).

In the other half of the bracket Saturday, Marysville Getchell (6-6-4, 5-6-2 Wesco 3A) plays at Wesco 3A South champion Meadowdale (16-0, 13-0 Wesco 3A), and Ferndale (7-6-3, 7-3-2 Northwest 3A/2A/1A Conference) plays at Stanwood (7-7-1, 6-6-1 Wesco 3A).

For Shorecrest, Maya Garber-Yonts and Alexa Iacolucci each have six goals and three assists; Kate Hildahl has three goals and seven assists; and Sophia Flohr has three goals and four assists. Shorewood goalkeeper Ashley Garay has three shutouts.

The Shorecrest junior varsity has finished its season with an 11-1 Wesco 3A record (13-2 overall). The Shorewood JVs had a 10-2-1 Wesco 3A record (12-3-1 overall).
