Standing room only in the City Council Chambers
for the joint meeting of Echo Lake, North City, and Meridian Park
neighborhood associations

By Dale Lydin, Echo Lake Neighborhood Association Board Member

Last Tuesday evening, over 80 residents of the Echo Lake, North City and Meridian Park neighborhoods heard Sound Transit and City of Shoreline staff discuss the current state of planning, and future schedule for the proposed Light Rail station on the east side of I-5 at 185th Street.  This location is at the intersection of these three neighborhoods.

In sections of the LINK Light Rail system that have been completed, the stations have been a catalyst for redevelopment and growth. Multi-story, residential and commercial buildings and parking structures have replaced single family homes.

We understand that this will likely happen in Shoreline too and to help plan for and manage these changes, a group of residents from the three neighborhoods are forming the "Light Rail 185th Station Citizen Committee”.

This committee will strive to educate and give voice to everyone in our community in the hopes that the station will improve our communal identity. We will stay connected to the Sound Transit and City of Shoreline planning and design efforts, and make sure that the needs of our neighborhoods are integrated in the final plans.

The committee is just forming and invites anyone who lives in the Echo Lake, North City, or Meridian Park neighborhoods to participate. Go to the Echo Lake website to leave a message containing your name and contact information, including e-mail address, phone number, neighborhood, and address (if you want to receive written communications from your neighborhood).
