Legally Blonde playing at Seattle Musical Theatre

Carly Hebert stars in Legally Blonde: The Musical

Legally Blonde: The Musical to open Seattle Musical Theatre’s 35th Season!

Seattle Musical Theatre is kicking off its 35th season of contemporary and classical favorites with the side-splittingly funny Legally Blonde: The Musical on the SMT stage beginning September 14th through October 7th.

Based on the hit 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde: The Musical is a fun, flirty night of singing and dancing, as well as bending and snapping! Sorority star Elle Woods doesn't take "no" for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone "serious," Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out with her little dog Bruiser to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

The original run of the show on Broadway in 2007 received seven Tony nominations, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score, and ten Drama Desk nominations, including Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Book of a Musical. The production was a major success, breaking to $1,000,000 mark for weekly gross.

“It is a story of a young woman who learns to take control of her situation and not accept the role society tells her she must play,” says director, Sam Pettit. “Through Elle’s journey we see that being feminine does not mean being weak.” Elle shows the audience that no matter what you wear or how you look, you can be powerful, courageous, and fight for what you want in this world.

Legally Blonde: The Musical stars Carly Hebert as Elle Woods, last seen on SMT’s stage as Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray under the name Carly Hodgson. (She just got married! Omigod, you guys!) Carly studied music and vocal performance at Cornish College of the Arts and has been seen in a variety of shows all across town. She will be joined on stage by some old and some new faces to SMT.

Sam Pettit is heading the artistic team as Director, Choreographer, and Scenic Designer. Sam’s credits do include a stint as choreographer for Red, Hot & Cole at Civic Light Opera (SMT’s former name) in 2005. The majority of the year, Sam teaches at Studio East of Kirkland, though has many directing/choreography gigs throughout the season.

Tickets for Legally Blonde: The Musical are priced at $35-$40. Performances are from September 14th through October 7th, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2:00pm, and an extra show on Thursday, October 4th at 7:30pm. For ticket information call (206) 363-2809 or visit the website

  1. I saw A Chorus Line here back in February and it was really good. I am looking forward to seeing this one too.
