AMERICA and THE WORLD In a Presidential Election Year
October 8 – November 1, 2012
The Global Affairs Center at Shoreline Community College
is sponsoring a series of free daytime and evening
events that focus on the question: “How do electoral politics,
especially in a Presidential election year, affect the way in which the
U.S. interacts with the rest of the world?”
On
four consecutive evenings starting on October 10, participants will
hear from experts in two critical regions, China and Europe, and two
major policy areas, trade
policy and defense policy.
The
four daytime events will include a Washington State Supreme Court
Justice who will discuss the balance between liberty and security in the
age of terrorism. Other
daytime presentations will feature:
- A group of professionals from a score of other countries talking about how the U.S. is perceived in other parts of the world;
- An expert on immigration policy discussing how foreign policy is impacted by electoral politics, and;
- Groups of SCC students debating the merits of the two candidates for President as foreign policy leaders.
All eight events, four evening and four daytime, are free and open to the public.
