Neighbors in the vicinity of Aldercrest Annex in the 2800 block of NE 200th, heard what they thought were fireworks early Wednesday evening, August 8, 2012, just before smoke and fire near the building brought out the four fire departments of Shoreline, Northshore, Bothell, and Snohomish county.

According to first reports, the fire started in a mattress outside the building, then spread to the inside of the empty building, which belongs to the Shoreline School District and was formerly Kellogg Middle School.

A ladder truck was on the south side of the fire to keep it from spreading to the gym.

Shoreline and King County Fire Investigation units were still on the scene at 9:30pm, determining the cause of the blaze.

Damages are estimated to be around $20,000 dollars. There were no injuries during the incident.
