Our farmers' markets were included in a column by Rebekah Denn "All You Can Eat" in The Seattle Times.
"The Seattle area will have at least one new venue this year when the Shoreline Farmers Market debuts June 16." It will run on Saturdays, 10am to 3pm.
The Lake Forest Park Farmers' Market opens on Mother's Day, May 9, and will run on Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm.
It isn't just vegetables at the markets. Rebekah says, "I'm glad to see a new ice cream maker, Social Ice Cream, whose owner trained with one of my favorites, Parfait. Social will be at the Lake Forest Park and Shoreline markets."
Rebekah reports on several markets which have closed, which points up how fortunate we are to have two markets within reach.
According to Brendan Lemkin, founder of the Shoreline market, he expects the two markets to complement each other, rather than compete.
Other people will have two options to shop over the weekend, once the Shoreline market opens.
The Lake Forest Park market has buskers, featured entertainers, and special events. Vendors sell meat, eggs, flowers, and ice cream, in addition to fruits and vegetables. Every vendor is organic. Several booths sell ready to eat food - last year there was a choice of hot dogs, crepes, and soup - not to mention ice crea - and tables are provided. Some Sundays have specific children's activities.
The market is an experience. a family entertainment. and a great place to people and dog-watch on a Sunday afternoon.
