Shorewood takes 1-2 baseball record into 10-day rest before opening Wesco-3A season against Shorecrest

The Shorewood baseball team takes a 1-2 non-league record into 10 days off before it opens Western Conference 3A Division-play with a series against Shorecrest, following a 1-0 home loss to Edmonds-Woodway of the Wesco 4A South Saturday.

Shorewood and Shorecrest (1-1) meet Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Shorewood’s home field at Meridian Park School, and Friday, March 30, at Shorecrest.

In the 1-0 home loss to Edmonds-Woodway Saturday, Shorecrest out-hit the Warriors 7-1, but EW scored the only run in the sixth of seven innings. Duncan Hendrickson had a single and a double in three at bats. Josh Hawkinson was the losing pitcher, despite striking out four Edmonds-Woodway batters in 5 2/3 innings. The game had been postponed from Wednesday.

Shorewood had lost another 1-0 game Friday to Inglemoor of the Kingco Conference 4A Division. In the 1-0 loss at Inglemoor, the Thunderbirds also outhit their opponents, but Inglemoor scored the only run in the bottom of the seventh.

Shorewood had defeated North Kitsap of the 4A Narrows League, 11-1, Tuesday in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Hendrickson batted 3 for 3, with a triple and 2 RBI. Max Jacobs was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, and Cameron Stern was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI. Hawkinson was the winning pitcher, striking out 4 and giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 base on balls in 3 innings.

A game with Redmond of the Kingco Conference 4A Division was postponed from Monday, March 12, to Saturday, March 31.

The Shorewood junior varsity team defeated Edmonds-Woodway, 11-7, lost to Inglemoor, 4-1, and tied North Kitsap, 5-5.

The Shorewood junior varsity meets the Shorecrest JVs at Shorecrest March 28 at 4 p.m., and at Meridian Park March 30 at 4.
