Lisa Gonzalez Scott has been selected as principal of Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline, Superintendent Sue Walker announced. The appointment is effective July 1 and subject to approval by the Shoreline School Board.
She succeeds Lori Longo, who is retiring after 11 years as Kellogg principal.
Lisa is in her second year as the assistant principal at Kellogg. She has worked with Kellogg parents, staff, and students in the school’s efforts to close the opportunity gap, led Kellogg’s school-wide VALOR initiative grounded in Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) strategies, and coordinated its academic intervention programs. She previously served as an administrative intern at Einstein Middle School and Shorecrest High School, as social studies department head at Shorecrest, and as coordinator of the District's Response to Intervention program.
Lisa was a social studies teacher at Shorecrest for 12 years and a member of the school's AVID teaching team. She also taught middle school social studies for two years in the Lakeview School District in Battle Creek, Mich. She is bilingual and Spanish is her first language.
Lisa served as regional director of the YMCA Earth Service Corps in Seattle from 1991 to 1993 and from 1996 to 1998, managing a $250,000 Americorps grant and supervising a team of 10 Americorps staff members.
She graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor of arts in political science and from the University of Michigan with a master of arts in education with secondary teaching certificate. She received her principal certification from Western Washington University.
Lisa and her husband, Mark, live in Shoreline and are the parents of a daughter who attends Ridgecrest Elementary.
