Shorewood boys play host to Mount Vernon in District tournament elimination game Friday after 57-52 first-round home loss to Oak Harbor Wednesday

The Shorewood boys’ basketball team plays a Northwest District 3A tournament elimination game against Mount Vernon Friday at home after the Thunderbirds lost a 57-52 first-round game to Oak Harbor.
Shorewood takes a 16-5 season record into the game against Mount Vernon (10-11), a team that lost to Glacier Peak, 60-58 Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Shorewood High School.
The loser of the Friday game is out of the tournament. The winner could advance to the State 3A tournament as the District’s No. 2 team by winning three games Feb. 14, 17 and 21.
Mount Vernon came into the District tournament as the No. 1 Northwest Conference 3A team, Glacier Peak as the No. 4 Western Conference 3A team.
In Shorewood’s 57-52 home loss to Oak Harbor Wednesday, Shorewood led 13-11 after the first quarter, 28-25 at halftime and 47-37 after three quarters before Oak Harbor outscored the Thunderbirds 20-5 in the final period for the five-point victory. Semir Kadiric led the T-birds with 15 points, followed by Josh Hawkinson with 12, Ben Andrews with 11, Gage Carroll with 8 and Zane Hopen with 6.
Shorewood had defeated Oak Harbor (8-13) twice during the regular season. The Thunderbirds had entered the tournament as the No. 2 Wesco 3A division team, Oak Harbor as the No. 5 Wesco 3A team.
