The Shorewood wrestling team went into the Shorecrest gym Thursday night and defeated their cross-town rivals 37-33.
Building on the momentum of the Shorewood junior varsity's 44-0 victory over the Shorecrest JVs, the Thunderbirds won the first five matches to create a 23-0 lead.
The Scots rebounded to score 33 straight points, aided by three forfeits by Shorewood. The back-and-forth affair was not decided until the last match when Thunderbird sophomore Rikio Campbell scored a technical fall over Josiah Glesener of Shorecrest.
Shorewood's four senior wrestlers all secured victories, highlighted by captains David Ball and Alex Lee, who each defeated a senior captain from Shorecrest.
Shorewood finished the regular season with a 3-6 Wesco 3A record and 8-8 overall record. Shorecrest had a 2-6, 3-7 dual-meet record going into a match at Lynnwood Friday that was rescheduled from a week earlier because of weather
Both teams next compete in the Northwest District 3A championships at Oak Harbor Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.
