Shorecrest girls take 83-74 overtime victory at Mountlake Terrace Friday, Jan. 13, into Saturday home game with Shorewood

The Shorecrest girls’ basketball team was to play for the Western Conference 3A lead in a home game against Glacier Peak Tuesday that was postponed until Monday, Jan. 23, and a Thursday game at third-place Lynnwood that was postponed until Friday, Jan. 28.

Instead, the Scots will take their second-place 8-1 Wesco 3A record (11-2 overall) into a Saturday home game against Shorewood (4-4 Wesco 3A, 5-7 overall) after an 83-74 overtime victory at Mountlake Terrace Friday, Jan. 13.

Glacier Peak leads the Wesco 3A with a 9-1 record (12-2 overall) despite Shorecrest’s 43-41 victory at Glacier Peak Jan. 6.

The Shorecrest girls and Shorewood are scheduled to play at Shorewood at 5 p.m. Saturday as part of a full day of games between Shorecrest and Shorewood boys' and girls' teams. The Shorecrest and Shorewood girls' junior varsity teams play at 1 p.m.

In Shorecrest’s 83-74 overtime victory at Mountlake Terrace Jan. 13, Mountlake Terrace led 21-14 after the first quarter, 41-31 at halftime and 55-43 after three quarters before the Scots outscored the Hawks 27-15 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 70-70 after regulation play and outscore the Hawks 13-4 in the overtime period. Mountlake Terrace, which had only seven players in uniform for the game, played the last 30 seconds of overtime with only four players on the floor because three players had fouled out.

Senior Bri Lasconia scored 45 of Shorecrest’s 83 points against Mountlake Terrace. Fellow seniors Mickey Greenburg and Janie Uppinghouse each scored 11. Lasconia scored 22 of her 45 points either in the fourth quarter or in overtime, She made one of two free throws at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime.

The Shorecrest JVs defeated Mountlake Terrace 40-37.

        

Lasconia leads the Shorecrest varsity in season scoring with 219 points in 13 games for an average of 16.8 points per game.
