The Shorecrest boys’ basketball team returns to Western Conference 3A play Tuesday after winning one of three games at the Kennedy Catholic High School holiday tournament in Burien Wednesday through Friday.
Shorecrest takes a 5-1 Wesco 3A record (6-4 overall) into a home game with Everett (0-6, 0-8) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, with junior varsity teams from the two schools meeting at 5:40 and “C” teams playing at 3:45.
In the tournament, Shorecrest lost to host Kennedy 67-55 Wednesday, defeated Enumclaw 54-36 Thursday and lost to Emerald Ridge 50-37 Friday.
In the 67-55 loss to Kennedy Catholic, Shorecrest led 18-15 after the first quarter, but Kennedy took a 37-33 halftime lead and pulled away the rest of the game. Junior Chibuogwu and Joe Ghebrehiwot each scored 19 points for the Scots.
In the 54-36 victory over Enumclaw, Shorecrest led 15-9 after the first quarter, 32-13 at halftime and 45-28 after three quarters before easing to victory in the final period. Keith Shattuck led the Scots with 18 points, followed by Chibuogwu with 12.
In the 50-37 loss to Emerald Ridge, Shorecrest trailed 10-6 after the first quarter, 18-8 at halftime and 32-17 after three quarters before closing the gap slightly in the final period. Chibuogwu led the Scots with 20 points.
For the season, Chibuogwu leads Shorecrest with 177 points in 10 games for an average of 17.7 points per game.
