Work is well under way on the new Shorecrest gymnasium. Slabs are being poured for the floors throughout the building, and the exterior walls are rising to roof framing level. The gymnasium is scheduled to be completed in time for the beginning of school in September 2012.

Construction of the performing arts building began over winter break. If you drive by the front of the school along 25th Avenue Northeast, you will see crews have removed a portion of the B hall and classrooms attached to the existing theater. The theater will remain in its existing location but will be modernized. Crews have also demolished the F-Court buildings to make room for the new performing arts building, which is scheduled to be completed in late 2012.

With the closure of the theater and demolition of the existing band/orchestra areas, those classes are now being held in either the Shorecrest cafeteria or at Kellogg Middle School. The annual Shorecrest musical will be performed in the Shoreline Center auditorium. The new performing arts building is scheduled to open in December 2012.

With the beginning of construction on the performing arts building also comes changes in parking at the school. The north lot is restricted to staff parking during the day, with additional parking on the former tennis courts. Students will use the south parking lot and some areas in front of the school, with overflow at Hamlin Park.
