My wife and I were pleasantly surprised and pleased with our dinner at the Puerto Bonito Family Mexican Restaurant on Sunday afternoon.

It is relatively new, and we had never tried it before.

Abraham Garcia and his partner Felipe Sanchez opened Puerto Bonito Family Mexican Restaurant at 630 Richmond Beach Road in November. They have operated the Magnolia El Ranchon restaurant in Magnolia for the past 18 years.

We didn’t expect the restaurant would be so good.

We were pleasantly surprised, although truthfully it was just a tad pricey for Mexican food.  BUT – it WAS very good food.

The menu offers a broad selection of choices, including a number of seafood combinations.

My deluxe seafood enchilada, stuffed with shrimp, crab and scallops ($16.25), was scrumptious.  My wife’s arroz con mariscos ($16.25) was equally tasty.

The owners completely gutted the place, which was previously Ricky's Bar, and remodeled it into a friendly restaurant space. Everything is bright and clean.

Once the weather improves, there is a patio for outdoor dining.

The service was friendly, and the food delicious.

Definitely worth a return trip.

We also liked the chips, salsa and guacamole….

Puerto Bonito is located in the shopping plaza on Richmond Beach Road anchored by QFC and Ace Hardware.  This is the area known as 4-Corners, where the neighborhoods of Hillwood, Richmond Highlands, Richmond Beach, and Innis Arden meet.

The Family restaurant is best when you are outside eating. There is a lot to enjoy outside than being inside. I think it is more crowded when you stay inside with your family.
