New Shoreline City Council sworn in, Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected

At a special meeting of the Shoreline City Council Tuesday evening, January 3, the new Shoreline City Council was sworn in and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected.

Superior Court Judge and long-time Shoreline resident Richard EAdie administered the oath of office to Chris Eggen, re-elected to Position #2, and Doris McConnell, re-elected to Position #4. He swore in new council member Jesse Salomon, who was elected to Position #6, replacing retiring council member Terry Scott.

Judge Eadie thanked everyone who ran for office and their families for their willingness to put themselves up as candidates and be willing to serve their community.

The Shoreline City Council is now composed of the following members.

• Position #1 - Keith McGlashan
• Position #2 - Chris Eggen
• Position #3 - Will Hall
• Position #4 - Doris McConnell
• Position #5 - Shari Winstead
• Position #6 - Jesse Salomon
• Position #7 - Chris Roberts

Shoreline operates as a code city under the laws of the State of Washington with a council-manager form of government. As the governing body, the seven elected part-time City Councilmembers set policy and appoint a City Manager to implement that policy.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by the council members. Duties including setting the agenda for council meeting, running the meetings, representing the City at ceremonial occasions, and being part of the North End Mayors' group. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor hold weekly meetings with the City Manager.

Nominated by Council member Chris Roberts, Keith McGlashan was unanimously elected to another two-year term as Mayor. Mayor McGlashan then took the gavel for the election of the Deputy Mayor. Council member Roberts nominated Chris Eggen, who was also unanimously elected to a two-year term as Deputy Mayor.

Mayor McGlashan said “I appreciate the support I received from the entire council and look forward to working with Deputy Mayor Eggen, the council, staff, and community."

Deputy Mayor Eggen commented “I want to thank the entire council for their support in my election as Shoreline’s Deputy Mayor. I look forward to working with Mayor McGlashan, my fellow Councilmembers, and city staff on our city’s goals."

Outgoing Deputy Mayor Will Hall, commenting that the unanimous elections continued the harmonious functioning of the city council, said "We are one city and I'm proud to be part of a leadership team that represents everybody."
