Lake Forest Park and Kenmore are now in the 46th Legislative District

After decades of being in the same state legislative district, most recently the 32nd, Shoreline and Lake Forest Park are now in different districts.

Shoreline remains in the 32nd LD, represented by Sen. Maralyn Chase, Rep. Cindy Ryu, and Rep. Ruth Kagi. Rep. Kagi lives in Lake Forest Park but has stated her intention to move and run for reelection in the 32nd.

Lake Forest Park and Kenmore join a large piece of northeast Seattle in the 46th LD. Legislators are Sen. David Frockt, Rep. Phyllis Kenney, and Rep. Gerry Pollet.

The 46th District Legislators are holding a town meeting on Saturday at North Seattle Community College.  see article

In the map below, the purple area indicates the new 46th District.

The 46th Legislative District includes Lake Forest Park and Kenmore.
The district is shown in purple.

The state legislative boundaries are redrawn every ten years after the census, to balance the districts by population.  It is a complex process. Efforts are made to keep cities together and avoid creating districts that cross the Cascades or have other geographic barriers that make it difficult to gather people together, but someone always ends up divided.

Districts in heavily populated Puget Sound are small, but in sparsely populated central and eastern Washington the districts are huge and sometimes run the length of the state.
