Soulful Sounds of Christmas XXIII new location, new group

Nichol Venee Eskridge, soloist
The Soulful Sounds of Christmas concert enters year twenty-three in a new location and with a new group.

Long time holiday concert the “Soulful Sounds of Christmas” has been a main stay on the campus of Shoreline Community College, will be moving, but not far. The concert will be held this year in the main dining room of the Pub, and not the Little Theater as in years past. Pat Wright and the Total Experience Gospel Choir will not be performing this year.

However, one of Seattle’s gospel music pioneer’s Cora Jackson and the Judah Song Choir will be joining this year’s concert, along with soloist Nichol Venee’ Eskridge on December 19, 2011 at 7:30pm.

Jackson’s music has spanned more than 30 years. She is the owner of Sonojack Records, she has composed over 150 songs and three dramatic musicals. She has performed with many great gospel musicians and toured with several choirs as a vocalist and music director. She has made numerous appearances: Sankofa Maafa, Port Townsend Blues and Jazz Festivals, televised Black History Month programs, Children’s Defense Fund National Conference, Black Dollar Days banquet with Dick Gregory, singing of the national anthem for the Seattle Super Sonics ball games, radio and television appearances and countless other special programs.

She founded Judah Song, a multi-racial and multi-denominational community based choir which ministers at drug and recovery centers, prisons, fellow churches and in concert throughout the year.

Eskridge is back for her twenty-third year of Soulful Sounds of Christmas. She is a seasoned gospel music talent with performances at local churches, schools, malls and special events including “Keepers of the Dream,” “Black Nativity,” and Duke Ellington Sacred Music Concert,” with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. She has been featured on several recording projects, and has four solo CD projects of her own.

New this year as well is an outreach to needy families; we will be working with local partners to support several families with turkey baskets, toys and will be serving hors d’oeuvres. The “Soulful Sounds of Christmas XXIII” is an evening of spirit-filled music that will start your holiday season on a high note!
