The Shorewood girls’ basketball team takes a 0-2 record into its home opener Monday after the 3A Thunderbirds lost to 4A Stanwood, 74-41, at Stanwood High School Thursday.
Shorewood plays host to Monroe of the Western Conference 4A North division at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Shorewood High School. Junior varsity teams from the two schools meet at 5:40, with the “C” teams playing at 3:45. The games will be the season openers for the Monroe teams.
The Thunderbirds open Wesco 3A play with a home game against Lynnwood Friday at 7:15.
In the 74-41 loss at Stanwood, the T-birds trailed 15-10 after the first quarter, 38-17 at halftime and 58-28 after three quarters. Kassie Rasmussen and Masha Shtikel led Shorewood with 10 points each; Jennifer Thompson scored 8; Christine McCauley added 5; Bella Gangries had 4; and Georgia Allfrey and Gabby Hager each scored 2. The Shorewood junior varsity team also fell to 0-2 with a 70-8 loss to Stanwood.
Shtikel leads the Shorewood varsity in season scoring with 25 points in two games.
