PLUS 50 Career Builder courses at SCC enrolling now

Enroll now for PLUS 50 Career Builder courses at Shoreline Community College beginning mid-January 2012.

Shoreline Community College is currently enrolling students for Winter Quarter for the PLUS 50 Career Builder program. The program is designed specifically for those 50 and over who want to or are being required to return to work, improve their job skills or train for a new career. All ages are welcome and are invited to participate.

Shoreline’s program was designed with consideration on how to best help students get the current skills and tools needed in today’s workforce as quickly as possible, and for that reason, many courses can be completed in a few sessions. Additionally, all courses are non-credit and are offered at convenient times, the majority in the daytime and evenings. Classes are priced lower than most courses at other colleges and are all under $100.

A few of the Winter Quarter offerings include:
  • Integrated, Self-paced Computer Lab
  • Navigate a Job Search in a Difficult Job Market
  • Explore a New Career: Skills Transfer
  • Social Networking-Look for Work and Communicate with Your Grandkids!
Other classes include keyboarding, computer skills, home business web site development, Excel 2010, Word 2010, and writing.

For information on the times and dates these classes are being taught and more complete course descriptions, please go to: .

The Plus 50 registration process has been simplified and no transcripts or placement tests are required. Admission and registration forms (available online) must be completed and mailed or taken to Enrollment Services and tuition must be paid in advance. Registration information is online.

The program was designed in response to a national initiative launched by the American Association of Community Colleges in 2010 to support the creation of programs for baby boomers at community colleges and to ensure their continued presence in the workforce.

A Senior Tuition Waiver program is available to adults 60 and over. This program allows the student to attend college credit classes at minimal cost on a space-available basis for credit or audit. For more information on this program, contact Enrollment Services at (206) 546-4611.

Shoreline Community College is located at 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, in Shoreline, just west of Aurora Avenue and north of Seattle city limits.

  1. I think you should include 40 and over because these folks face a lot of the same challenges as 50 somethings.

  2. I don't consider someone in their 50's as a senior citizen, though!
