Shorewood volleyball team finishes season with 7-9 record after two losses in Northwest District tournament

The Shorewood volleyball team finished its season with a 7-9 record after losing two matches in the Northwest District 3A tournament at Glacier Peak High School Monday, Oct. 31.

The Thunderbirds opened tournament play with a 3-0 loss to Meadowdale.

The Seattle Times ranks Meadowdale sixth among State 3A teams.

Meadowdale went on to win its semifinal match and advance to the championship match with Lynnwood Saturday. The winner advances to the State 3A tournament Nov. 11-12 at St. Martin’s University in Lacey. The Meadowdale-Lynnwood loser then plays for the District’s No. 2 berth in the State tournament against the winner of a match between Everett and Glacier Peak.

Shorewood was eliminated from the tournament Monday night after a 3-1 loss to Mount Vernon. Everett eliminated Mount Vernon Thursday.

In Shorewood’s 3-0 loss to Meadowdale, the Mavericks won with game scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16. Marianne Kellogg had 19 assists and nine digs and Molly Whipple had eight kills for the Thunderbirds.

In Shorewood’s 3-1 loss to Mount Vernon, the game scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-19 and 25-13. Dana Brindle had 20 digs, Madison Welsh had nine kills and 18 digs, Marianne Kellogg had 31 assists and Stephanie Vollbrecht had seven kills and three blocks for the Thunderbirds.
