Shoreline Council candidates have raised more than $107,000

With five days left before Election Day, the six Shoreline City Council candidates have reported raising $$107,483 and spending $81,767.

That’s $5.93 raised and $4.51 spent for each of the 18,132 Shoreline voters who cast ballots in the last city election two years ago.

The most expensive contest is the one between former City Planning Commissioner Robin McClelland and attorney Jesse Salomon for the position that Councilman Terry Scott now holds.

Salomon leads all Shoreline candidates with $34,415 raised and $30,457 spent. His fundraising includes $10,300 in personal contributions and a $4,700 loan. Contributors include the State Democratic Central Committee, Democratic State Reps. Luis Moscoso and Cindy Ryu, former Democratic State Rep. Nancy Rust, the King County Labor Council, and Shoreline Democratic activists Robert and Elaine Phelps, Dan Mann Corey Murata and Janet Way.

McClelland has raised $25,395 and spent $19,480. Her fundraising total includes a $600 personal contribution and a $4,700 loan. Contributors include the King County Police Officers Guild, the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, the James Alan Salon, Democratic State Rep. Ruth Kagi, former Shoreline City Councilmen Paul Grace and Bob Ransom, and former Shoreline School Board president Bill Schnall and Shoreline attorney Michael Jacobs (not the School Board member).

Salomon's and McClelland’s combined total of $59,810 raised and $49,937 spent is more than the total for the four candidates in the other two races.

The contest between incumbent Councilwoman Doris McConnell and former Councilwoman Janet Way is the second most expensive. McConnell has raised $17,575 and spent $11,135. Way has raised $12,394 and spent $9,539.

McConnell’s total includes a $2,000 loan. Contributors include former Councilmen Grace, Ransom and Ron Hansen, former School Director Schnall, the James Alan Salon and attorney Jacobs.

Way’s donors include the 32nd Legislative District Democratic organization, former 32nd District Democratic leaders Peter Henry and Lila Smith, Democratic State Sen. Maralyn Chase, Democratic State Reps. Ryu and Moscoso, Robert and Elaine Phelps, and Dan Mann and Brad Lancaster of Shoreline.

The least money is in the contest between incumbent Councilman Chris Eggen and challenger William Hubbell.

Eggen has raised $9,120 and spent $4,667. His contributors include the Amalgamated Transit Union, the King County Labor Council, Democratic State Rep. Ryu, former Democratic State Rep. Rust, Lila Smith, Bob and Elaine Phelps, and Brad Lancaster.

Hubbell has raised $8,444 and spent $6,489.

The candidates endorsed by the 32nd District Democrats have raised $56,069 and spent $44,663. Their three opponents have raised $51,414 and spent $37,104.

The only contributors to candidates on both sides are Ransom, who donated to McClelland, McConnell and Eggen, and the Washington Association of Realtors, which donated to incumbents Eggen and McConnell.
