Shorecrest soccer team to open State play Wednesday after victory over Mount Vernon for third place in District tournament

The Shorecrest girls’ soccer team will open State tournament play Wednesday, Nov. 9, after the Scots defeated Mount Vernon, 3-2, Thursday, Nov. 3, for third place in the Northwest District tournament.

Shorecrest will take a 14-4-1 record into the Wednesday game at the home of the winner of the West Central/Southwest Bi-District tournament. The Bi-District tournament concludes Saturday with sixth-ranked Bonney Lake of the South Puget Sound League meeting Wilson of Tacoma for the championship.

In the victory over Mount Vernon, Nicole Harris scored two unassisted goals, and Sophia Flohr scored with an assist from Nicole Sharratt. The second Harris goal gave Shorecrest a 3-0 lead. Mount Vernon came back with two second-half goals but couldn’t get a game-tying third goal.

Mount Vernon, which came into the game ranked seventh among State 3A teams, finished its season with a 15-3-1 record.

Shorecrest’s victory at Shoreline Stadium Wednesday was followed by the District championship game, in which Meadowdale handed Everett its first defeat of the season, 2-0. Meadowdale and Everett head for the State playoffs as the Nos. 1 and 2 Northwest District teams.
