Shoreline Fire commissioners
Wednesday, October 19, 2011
The Shoreline Fire District was originally formed as King County Fire District No. 4 in 1939, but changed its name to Shoreline Fire to better identify with the community it serves.
It is a "special purpose district" providing fire suppression, emergency medical, and fire prevention services. The Board of Commissioners provide general direction in the areas of financial management, administration and policy adoption. Commissioners are elected by the citizens of Shoreline. Terms are for six years.
Current commissioners:
- Ken Callahan: Term Expires December 31, 2013
- Jim Fisher: Term Expires December 31, 2013
- David Harris: Term Expires December 31, 2011 - currently running for election, unopposed
- Rod Heivilin: Term Expires December 31, 2015
- Jon Kennison: Term Expires December 31, 2011 - currently running for reelection
The number of commissioners was recently increased from three to five to be in compliance with state law, required when a department no longer has a volunteer program.
Per the Revised Code of Washington, Commissioners are entitled to per diem pay of $104.00 per meeting or "in performance of other services or duties on behalf of the Department." The state places an annual cap of $9,984.00 on the amount of per diem that a Commissioner may receive.
The Board meets at 5pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 17525 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline WA 98133.
The Fire Department is an independent taxing district, separate from Shoreline City government.
