The Shorecrest football team moved into contention for a playoff berth when the Scots (3-2) defeated Everett (2-2 Wesco 3A, 3-2 overall) by a 28-7 score Friday, Sept. 30, at Shoreline Stadium.
The victory over Everett moved the Scots into a tie for third in the Western Conference 3A division with Glacier Peak going into Shorecrest’s Friday, Oct. 7, game against Lynnwood (0-4, 0-5) at Edmonds Stadium.
The top three Wesco 3A teams at the end of the regular-season schedule qualify for the quad-district playoffs Nov. 4-5 against other top 3A teams from the Northwest, Sea-King, West Central and Southwest districts.
The No. 4 Wesco 3A team plays the No. 2 Northwest Conference 3A team (Ferndale, Mount Vernon or Sedro Woolley) Tuesday, Nov. 1, for the right to play in a quad-district game as the fifth Northwest District team along with the top three Wesco 3A teams and No. 1 Northwest Conference 3A team.
The Nos. 5-8 Wesco 3A teams play Nov. 2-4 games against non-qualifying teams from the Wesco 4A North and South divisions.
With Shorecrest, Glacier Peak and Everett all having two division losses at mid-season, the Wesco 3A could be headed for a situation like last season, when Shorecrest, Everett and Mountlake Terrace finished in a three-way tie for third, leading to a Saturday playoff of mini-games that sent Shorecrest to a quad-district game and Everett to a Tuesday Northwest District playoff game.
The winners of the quad-district games play in the State 3A round of 16 Nov. 11-12.
In the victory over Everett Friday, Shorecrest led 14-0 after the first quarter, 14-7 at halftime and 21-7 after three quarters before Keegan Small scored the last of his three touchdown runs in the final quarter.
