Money flowing in all three Shoreline City Council races

By Evan Smith

Big money is now flowing into all three Shoreline City Council contests on the November 8 general election ballot.  Nine weeks before the November 8 general election, the six candidates for the three Shoreline Council positions on the ballot have reported raising $62,193 and spending $32,578. That’s $3.43 raised and $1.80 spent for each of the 18,132 Shoreline voters who participated in the City election two years ago.

The race between attorney Jesse Salomon and former Shoreline Planning Commissioner Robin McClelland for the position now held by Councilman Terry Scott has already accounted for $38,318 raised and $20,584 spent. Salomon reports raising $25,780 and spending $11,352 to McClelland’s $12,588 raised and $9,232 spent.

The contest between incumbent Councilwoman Doris McConnell and former Councilwoman Janet Way has attracted $15,685 in fundraising and resulted in $6,502 in expenditures. McConnell has reported raising $8,555 and spending $3,747 to $7,129 raised and $2,755 spent for challenger Way.

The third contest, between incumbent Councilman Chris Eggen and challenger William Hubbell is catching up to the others, with Eggen reporting raising $2,845 and spending $439 to Hubbell’s $5,345 raised and $5,053 spent for a total of $8,190 raised and $5,492 spent.

  1. It is interesting to note how few of the donations to Jesse Salomon are from Shoreline residents or business owners. Most of his donations come from outside the city that he's running in.
